Rules
How Crazy Eights works
Crazy Eights is a shedding game for four players with a standard 52-card deck. Each player receives 7 cards. One card is turned face up to start the discard pile; play moves clockwise. On your turn, play a card that matches the top discard by suit or rank, or draw from the pile if you cannot play.
If you cannot play, draw from the pile — up to 3 cards per turn. If you draw a card you can use, you may play it immediately. After 3 draws with nothing to play, your turn ends automatically. The first player to play all their cards wins the round. Play goes clockwise. Clara (on your left) opens round 1; each new round the opening player moves one seat clockwise: Clara, Miles, Quinn, then you.
If the first face-up card is an 8, the first player may play any card from their hand. When you have only one card left, a “1” badge appears beside your name so everyone can see. New to the game? Read how to play Crazy Eights and the full Crazy Eights rules.

If you hold two or more cards of the same rank and at least one can legally be played, you may play them together in one turn — for example, both queens when a queen or matching suit is showing. Wild 8s
What do wild 8s do?
The eight is wild. You may play it on any card and then choose which suit must be played next. If you hold two or more 8s, you may play them together in one turn — you still name the suit only once. After you play an 8, choose which suit the next player must follow — hearts, diamonds, clubs, or spades. That chosen suit stays in effect until another card changes it (for example, a matching rank or another 8). The wild 8s guide covers suit choice, when you can play an 8, and worked examples.
Eights are powerful but costly if you are caught holding them at the end of a round: each 8 left in hand is worth 50 penalty points. Use them to escape a bad suit, force opponents to draw, or dump multiple 8s in one turn when the rules allow.
Scoring
Scoring in Crazy Eights
The first player to play all their cards wins the round and scores no penalty points. Everyone else counts penalty points for the cards still in their hand. At the end of a round, each losing player adds penalty points for cards still in hand: 8s = 50, Aces = 1, face cards = 10, number cards = face value.
Penalty points are added for cards left in hand at the end of each round. The first player to reach 100 total points loses; the player with the lowest score wins the match.
